The UB CTSI Workforce Development Core is ratcheting up its offering of Core Competencies in Clinical and Translational Research seminars. In addition to rebooting last year’s popular Statistical Workshop and Responsible Conduct of Research series, Workforce Development has added another four series this academic year, with plans for another four already in progress.

There are 14 core competencies in clinical and translational research which are designed for a broad range of researchers, including faculty, trainees and staff. At present, CME credits are available to physicians who enroll. Participants who complete all the seminars in a series receive a certificate of completion.

Produced in conjunction with the CTSI Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design (B.E.R.D.) Core, the 14 Statistical Workshop seminars include statistical approaches, sources of error, study design, literature critique and clinical and translational research questions. That kicks off September 14 and runs through April. (Click here for the schedule.)

The Biomedical Informatics series began on September 5. More than 50 faculty and students were in attendance. (Click here for the schedule.)

Prepared in partnership with the other CTSI cores, the following series were announced by Workforce Development Core Director Margarita Dubocovich, PhD, in August:

  • Responsible Conduct of Research (January – February  2018)
  • Scientific Communication (March – April 2018)
  • Cross-Disciplinary Training (April – May 2018)
  • Cultural Diversity (November 2017 –  June 2018)
  • Community Engagement (November 2017 – June 2018)

Plans are in the works to present the following series this academic year as well:

  • Good Clinical Practice
  • Translational Teamwork
  • Leadership
  • Research Implementation
